What can I not insulate using the DIY grant?

Accepted Answer

The DIY grant is intended for the original building envelope of the property.
This means the grant does not apply to:
A shed, garage or other outbuilding that is not part of the original thermal envelope of the property.
An extension, annex or new storey that increases the existing living space.
A storage room that is not considered part of the original property.

How can I check whether my insulation project meets the eligibility criteria for the DIY grant?

Please note that the criteria may vary from one local municipality to another. Please read the grant conditions set by your own local municipality carefully. Below you will find the requirements for the DIY grant as set out by the central government.
To qualify for the DIY grant under the National Insulation Programme, you must install at least 20 square metres of insulation if you are installing roof insulation, loft floor insulation or floor insulation in your home. Unless your local authority has specifically stated that the minimum square metre requirement does not apply. For all local authorities, the newly installed insulation material must have a minimum insulation value (Rd value) of 3.5 [m² K/W]. The same conditions apply to the National Insulation Programme as to the ISDE scheme. These requirements are set by the central government.

What counts as bio-based insulation material?

Bio-based insulation materials include the following: Bio EPS, flax wool, wood fibre, hemp, jute, recycled clothing, cellulose, or other options such as seagrass, grass, mycelium and straw. See the product list
